Hey! My name's Trin and I'm a Personal Trainer, mental health advocate, student and outdoor training specialist from Sydney, Australia.
After 6 years of Acrobatics training, I joined a local gym to stay healthy and help relieve stress. Then like many of us, I found that I quite enjoyed lifting heavy things. After realising I actually had a passion for strength training, I became qualified to coach as soon as I could and never looked back.
Now, I love the Fitness Industry, I really do, but wherever it was that I found myself working, I realised there was something big missing. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was at first, then one day it hit me. I had worked in both commercial gyms and outdoor facilities, trained both group classes and one-on-one, but regardless of where my career took me, the emphasis was solely on the physical benefits of exercise.
The amazing psychological benefits of exercise were brushed over, ignored and rarely discussed. That didn't sit well with me. As a young person, exercise kept me afloat through the most mentally challenging periods of my life, and continues to be the foundation of my personal coping strategies. I don't really know where I'd be right now if I hadn't have had the revelation that exercise was the fastest thing improving my mental health (and therefore began integrating it into my lifestyle).
I started the 'Chin-Up Training' initiative because I was tired of watching not only my clients, but the people around me grapple with mental health issues, struggle with the stigma of talking about it and failing to find help. I strongly believe that fitness training can be our greatest weapon against mental illness when used properly.
I am a testament to this and so are many others, so it's time to get that message out there!
My sole goal is to start a movement where people acknowledge that fitness and positive mental health are interconnected, and to empower people to utilise exercise and training as a weapon against their struggles.
It's a big mission, but it's happening right now!
